"Project: The Brazilian Gift. The Flood Experience I"

General idea: having as a starting point the thought of flood and the city’s inhabitants proportional relation with the water, in Rotterdam and in São Paulo, the project sought to propagate an emblematic image of the Brazilian river situation, which represents mainly the functional logic in this country, that is: to supply energy through storage dams (as if the main proximity with the fluvial reality were mediated by its usefulness), something that has already caused many urban disasters. The intervention consisted of spreading such image, reproduced in chrome and mounted in small monocles (that carry the idea of a travel souvenir) in two situations in Rotterdam:

Sites:

1. The commercial area at the city center, close to the central sidewalk. This spot was chosen because of its great flux of people, who would be surprised by the small monocles installed at different urban equipments and façades, like electric poles, street signs, trees, shop windows, etc.

2. Erasmus Bridge. This Erasmus bridge was chosen as a symbolic passage, a form to re-walk the way to a small storage dam in the district of Espírito Santo, close to Vitória city. 7 monocles were installed throughout 600m, each with a different image of the way to the Brazilian storage dam.

"Project: The Brazilian Gift The Flood Experience II"

General idea: to install a couple of rope ladders, made by the artist, imitating boat ladders. Instead of having them fixed on boat masts they’ll be attached to the light poles, as if the city itself was a ship. The rope ladder would stand for an ‘emergency escape’ in relation to the ‘flood’ problem.

Sites:

1. Sidewalk in front of Het Wilde Weten.

2. Small park next to our house in Charlois, Rotterdam.

"Project: The Brazilian Gift. The Flood Experience III"

General idea: to make use of an idle space that has a direct connection with the public pavement: a small hole on a door, near a cultural centre, in this case the Witte de With Institute. Through this opening one sees a narrow hallway, used for the Institution's facilities supply. The Intervention covered this view with the black and white chrome image of a place in Sao Paulo city, a lowered footpath at the Cardeal Arcoverde street in the Pinheiros district, to the height of the elevated street above it, approximately 12m. high.

Site: door next to the Witte de With Institute in Rotterdam.
